On 30 October 2025, the first local meeting of the DIGI-Rangeland project took place at Casa Belón, in San Román de Cervantes (Galicia, Spain). The event marked an important milestone in the project’s implementation phase, bringing together local stakeholders to initiate collaborative work and knowledge exchange.
A Participatory Kick-Off Session
The meeting began with participant registration and an introductory session, followed by a welcome and round of presentations to foster networking among attendees. The DIGI-Rangeland project was then formally introduced, outlining its objectives, scope and expected impact in supporting the digital and technological transition of rangeland systems.
A dedicated session was held to present INNOGANDO technologies, providing participants with practical insight into innovative digital solutions applicable to livestock and rangeland management.
Identifying Needs and Challenges
A core part of the meeting focused on stakeholder engagement and co-creation. Participants worked collaboratively to identify key challenges and needs related to rangeland management and digital innovation. These were subsequently analysed and prioritised through group discussion, ensuring that the most pressing issues were clearly identified.
After a networking coffee break, discussions continued with a session addressing the limitations and barriers to the adoption of Digital and Technological Innovations (DTI). This exchange allowed participants to reflect on structural, technical, economic and social constraints that may hinder innovation uptake.
Defining Next Steps
The meeting concluded with a presentation of the project’s next activities and the role of group members in upcoming phases. Participants were invited to contribute actively to future actions, reinforcing the project’s multi-actor and participatory approach.
An evaluation of the meeting and an online survey were conducted to gather feedback and ensure continuous improvement of the engagement process. The session ended with a final discussion and closing remarks.
Strengthening Local Collaboration
This first meeting successfully established a collaborative foundation for DIGI-Rangeland activities in the region. By actively involving local stakeholders from the outset, the project reinforces its commitment to co-design, knowledge sharing and the practical adoption of digital solutions tailored to the needs of rangeland systems.
Further meetings and field activities will continue to build on this initial exchange, supporting the sustainable and digital transformation of rangeland management.
